Juliana Ketting '21 Names Union's Department of Classics as Beneficiary of her Retirement Plan

Juliana Ketting '21 knew she wanted to attend Union the moment she stepped on campus. Unsure of her desired area of study, she was matched with a general advisor who encouraged her to start with the basics. She took Latin and a few Classics courses, and, again, immediately knew she had found her spot.

With the help of beloved professors and advisors, Juliana went on to thrive at Union - in the classroom and beyond. She was part of our mentor program and president of Union's chapter of Gamma Phi Beta-two roles that she credits with building determination, leadership skills, and overall growth. "I grew into someone I didn't know I was when I started," said Juliana. "I formed relationships and made lifelong friends that I still talk to every day."

Juliana's parents are fellow Ramée Circle members, encouraging her to give back even while still at Union. As a result, Juliana made the decision to add Union as a beneficiary of her retirement account. "For me, it was an easy decision," she said, "I knew I wanted to take care of it while I was young, but I didn't realize how easy it would be! It took me maybe five minutes max, and now I don't have to worry about it. I can leave it to grow."

With her gift directed to benefit the Classics Department, Juliana encourages others to think about the things most important to them. "I want to leave some of my legacy to Union. So many students can benefit from that, and that means a lot to me," she said.
